This article covers Contents, Buildings & Contents, Buildings Only, Tenants Liability Insurance and Select By Urban Jungle Policies. You can find more relevant information to your policy type below. If you’re unsure about which policy you have, please refer to this article.
We offer different levels of excess for our Contents Insurance, ranging from £0 to £1,500.
If you have a policy with us, you can always find your excess levels in the ‘Statement of Fact’ section of your policy documents.
Your excess would be applied to any claim settlement that's due on the policy. For example, if you chose an excess of £100, and had a successful claim for £1000, you would receive £900. If we provide a replacement item rather than cash settlement, you will need to pay us the excess amount.
If you are looking at changing your selected excess once you’ve taken out a policy, you can do this on our website. You’ll just need to:
- Log in through the My Account section of our website, using the email address and password you used when taking out a policy.
- Click “Change Policy Details”

This would be added to your selected excess. For example, £100 compulsory excess + £200 voluntary excess = £300 total excess.
You can find more information about compulsory excess in your policy document that you can access through the ‘My account’ section of our website. If you don’t have a policy with us, you can find more information in this sample policy document.

The excess on our Tenants Liability Insurance is fixed at £50. This is not something that you are able to change before or after taking out your policy.
This excess of £50 would be applied to any claim settlement that's due on the policy. For example, if you had a successful claim for £1000, you would receive £950. If we provide a replacement item rather than cash settlement, you will need to pay us the excess amount.
You can find more information about the excess in your policy document that you can access through the ‘My Account’ section of our website. If you don’t have a policy with us, you can find more information in this sample policy document.
The compulsory excess for our Select by Urban Jungle Insurance policies is £200 for all claims types. Additional compulsory excesses apply for certain types of claims, for example, escape of water is £500 and subsidence, heave & landslip: £1,000.
There’s also a voluntary excess which you can decide when taking out a quote, this increases your total excess amount.
If you have an endorsement applied to your policy (see article) then your compulsory excess can vary or increase.
Your total excess is the amount you’ll pay towards any claim. For example, if you make a claim for £1,000 and your total excess is £400, you would receive £600. If we provide a replacement item rather than cash settlement, you will need to pay us the excess amount.
If you select Pet Damage cover, there is an additional compulsory excess of £300 for this cover.
It’s also worth noting that when taking out a quote, your policy excess can differ from the compulsory excess depending on your individual circumstances, but you will always be shown this upon purchase.
You can find more information about the excess in your policy document that you can access through the ‘My account’ section of our website. If you don’t have a policy with us, you can find more information in this sample policy document and get a quote here.
