Water damage or a leak can be disruptive, but here are some steps you can take to minimise the damage and protect your home.
If you have a burst pipe or your house has flooded, the first thing you need to do is bring the leak under control and stop the flow of water. To do this, you’ll need to locate your stopcock (often found under the kitchen sink, or under a hatch near the front door) and quickly turn off your water supply to minimise the damage.
You may want to call a plumber in your local area to mend the leak. If you have Home Emergency insurance with Urban Jungle or another provider, then you can contact the relevant Home Emergency claims number for assistance with this. You can find the Home Emergency number in your policy document through the My Account section.
You can also purchase dehumidifiers to absorb moisture in the air, or open windows where possible to help and minimise spread of damp and possible mould.
Next steps
Once you have identified where the leak is coming from or noticed water damage to your home, you’ll need to get in touch with our claims handlers directly.
All the information you need to make a claim on your policy is in both your policy documents and the 'Make a Claim' section of your account, which you can log into here: My Account.
If you have an Urban Jungle Contents or Buildings & Contents Policy, you can also make a claim online through the My Account section (it’s worth noting that if your property is unsafe, or you think you may need alternative accommodation, you’ll need to call the claims handlers directly to submit your claim).
We recommend that you don't start permanent repair work other than to prevent further damage, until it's been approved by the claims handler. It’s also important to document anything that you do to minimise damage with photographs, receipts and trade invoices. This will ensure that the claims handlers can validate your claim and have all the relevant information they need to process your claim.
