A water leak can be minor, but it can quickly turn into something serious. Here are a few things you can do to prevent damage.
Stopcock
Locate your stopcock (this controls the water supply) and is often under the kitchen sink, or under a hatch near the front door. In the event of a leak or burst pipe, the first thing you should do is locate your stopcock and turn off the water supply
Insulation of pipes
Lagging pipes can also help prevent damage, ensuring your pipes have the correct insulation can prevent them from freezing and bursting.
Regular checks
Proactively checking for leaks or potential water damage can also help you catch any damage before it turns into something more serious, you can check common areas for example your kitchen, bathroom and roof. Make sure that gutters are clear of any debris, so there is no build-up of water which can result in leaks and water damage.
In the event you do notice a leak or water damage and you want to make a claim, all the information you need to make a claim on your policy is in your policy documents and also in the 'Make a Claim' section of your online account.
If you have an Urban Jungle Contents or Buildings & Contents Policy, you can also make a claim online through the My Account section of our website (it’s worth noting that if your property is unsafe, or you think you may need alternative accommodation, you’ll need to call the claims handlers directly to submit your claim).
We recommend you document anything that you do to minimise damage with photographs, receipts and trade invoices. This will ensure that the claims handlers can validate your claim and have all the relevant information they need to process your claim.
