Most of our policies don’t include legal expenses cover, so check your policy documents carefully to see if you have this type of cover. If eligible, you will have been offered this cover during your purchase and it will be shown in your policy document.
Legal expenses insurance is not necessarily related to your home, but we know that a lot of people like to buy it at the same time as home insurance to save time and effort.
The policy covers you for all sorts of things that might crop up, where it would be useful to have representation by a lawyer. The types of cases include, making a personal injury claim, property disputes (for example your landlord trying to evict you illegally), disputes with retailers or service providers (for example, if a sales person has misled you about a product), disputes with your employer (eg unfair dismissal), investigation by HMRC, criminal defence in a motor incident, inheritance disputes. For full details of cover, you can read our policy document, which is linked to on the home page.
If you are unsure if your type of issue is covered, you can call the legal advice helpline, listed in your policy document, which is sent to you after buying.
